At Chaddesley Corbett Primary we want to make sure that every child gets the best support we can offer in order to help them to enjoy their learning, feel confident and happy amongst their friends and make the best possible progress. Every child has individual needs that will affect their learning. Support for all children begins in the classroom with High Quality First Teaching. The Class Teacher is responsible for planning tasks with scaffolding to ensure all children can access learning and make the next steps to enable progress to be made. Sometimes children need special support to give them an extra boost or to help them catch up with other children of the same age. They may need this support for a short time or a longer period, but during this time they will be part of our Additional Needs Register and we will keep a close eye on their progress, look carefully at what special support they need and keep in close touch with their parents. We have adopted a Graduated Approach in which we assess, plan, do and review on a regular basis to ensure that the right level of support is provided.

The Additional Needs Register is a list of children who need extra help because they face challenges that affect their learning.
With some children their area of difficulty is clear. With other children the actual difficulty is less clear, but because they are not making good progress, additional support needs to be put in place.
Children can be placed on the Additional Needs Register because they have difficulties in any of these areas:
Communication and Interaction
Cognition and Learning
Social, mental and emotional health
Sensory and/or Physical
There are different categories of need on the Additional Needs Register. They are called:
Pupil Voice The new Code of Practice places pupils at the centre of the planning process. It states; 'Young people and their families should be involved in discussions about the support they need, so they can share their knowledge and feedback to the school on the young person's progress'
At Chaddesley we feel it is important for the children to be involved in their education and want to include their thoughts and opinions. We make sure they are involved in what their next steps in learning are and have a say in how this is achieved. Wherever possible we involve children and families in the target setting process.
What are interventions?
Interventions are targeted programmes of support that provide a solution-focused approach to meeting needs at the earliest opportunity. The process involves the child, parents/carers, school staff and, at some levels, other professionals, working in partnership to get it right for every child. Intervention is designed to be flexible and allows for movement between stages depending on progress. They are grouped into the different areas of need, such as reading or maths. Some interventions are only offered in certain year groups, other interventions run across a wide range of ages. Teachers and SENDCo discuss which interventions would suit a particular child's needs and help them to make better progress. If we have not made it clear why your child is receiving an intervention, or what is happening, please contact your child’s class teacher or the SENDco.
Staff Training and Expertise All staff will have access to training, advice and resources to enable them to contribute to effective fully inclusive practice.
Complaints The school's complaints policy is available on the website or at the school office. In the first instance, we would advise voicing any concerns to the Class Teacher or/and SENDco. Following this, if issues are still not resolved, please make an appointment to see the Headteacher.
