welcome to class 3

Welcome to Class 3

Class 3 Topic Sheet
Class Teacher:  Mrs Small
Class Support:  Miss Handy

Our class is full of fun and action-packed learning! We pride ourselves on having high expectations and embracing challenges. Our theme this term is the Ancient Egyptians and where possible all lessons will have an Egyptian link. To kickstart our studies, the historical experience group 'Discover History' will visit us on 10th January to lead an exciting day for which the children can dress up and role play the lives of Ancient Egyptians.

KEY INFORMATION
  • The school day is 8:45 - 15:20.
  • Children can come onto the playground at 8.30am in the morning but will not be allowed in class until the bell rings at 8.45am.
  • PE is on Fridays until half term - children should come to school wearing their PE kit. After half term and until the end of summer, PE will be on Thursdays when we will visit a local pool for swimming lessons.
  • Forest School sessions will be every other Monday - children should come to school in their Forest School clothes along with waterproof coats and boots.

HOMEWORK

We value children's free time and understand that play is an immensely important part of their development. Therefore all homework set is deemed manageable and purposeful.
The following is the expectation:
  • Reading everyday (10 minutes to an adult if possible) - please ensure the reading record is signed at least three times and sent into school every Thursday.
  • Practising the current KIRF (Key Instant Recall Fact) a few times each week. This term our KIRF is telling the time on analogue clocks. Please follow this link to find out more about our Key Instant Recall Facts.
  • Learning and securing our times tables including the division facts. By the end of year 3, the target is to know our 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables.
  • Completing one piece of English homework weekly. Sent home Thursday and due-in on Tuesday.
The Ancient Egyptians
This will be our theme until Easter. It is a fascinating subject that will inspire the children. We will look at how Howard Carter and other Egyptologists discovered the tombs of the pharaohs and how they deciphered hieroglyphics. We will find out why the pyramids were built and facts about other brilliant Egyptian inventions. In addition we will study the beliefs of these ancient people and how they lived their lives. Click on the 'Theme Information Sheet' link below to download our fact sheet.
