Eco Schools is an international award scheme guiding schools on their journey towards sustainability. It's framework helps to embed sustainable principles into school life.
There are 3 levels of award- bronze, silver and the Green Flag. We currently hold the Green flag and have for 9 years. Our Eco- Schools Committee is elected each year with a representative from each year group (Year 1-6). We meet regularly and have been recently drawing up our new action plan. We hold assemblies to inform the whole school of our activities, run competitions and themed weeks throughout the year. The ten topics allow the Eco Committee lead the rest of the school in being the best Eco School we can.
RECYCLING AT CHADDESLEY CORBETT
Over the last two years we have been working closely with Terracycle. TerraCycle is a company working to eliminate the idea of waste by recycling the 'non recyclable'. TerraCycle can collect and recycle almost any form of waste. They have partnered up with many major consumer product companies, retailers and manufacturers.
At Chaddesley Corbett we have been selected to be a collection point for the Writing Instruments Recycling programme. This means we have a collection box in school where any writing instruments are accepted.
The children take responsibility of sorting and boxing up the recyclable products, ready to be sent away. A great way for our children to understand the importance of 'Looking after our school, Looking after our world' which encompasses our School Value of 'Pride of place'.
We were also a collection point for crisp packets when this initiative was linked closely with Walkers crisps. However this initiative has recently finished due to local supermarkets taking soft plastics, including crisp packets, for recycling.
If you would like to find out more information about what we do at Chaddesley Corbett Primary school, please book an appointment to speak to our Eco Committee.
